When Clients Become Their Own Worst Enemy
Marcus came to me in October with classic metabolic dysfunction.
Brain fog by 2pm.
Energy crashes that made afternoons unbearable.
Sleep that never felt restorative.
After his comprehensive lab panel, the picture was clear:
Severely disrupted cortisol rhythm.
Gut inflammation markers through the roof.
Thyroid conversion issues.
I gave him a precise protocol:
Undergo specific lab testing for confirmation.
Heal the gut first with targeted interventions.
Fix his sleep architecture with specific supplements and timing.
Then address thyroid optimization once his foundation was solid.
"How long until I feel better?" he asked.
"Give me 8-12 weeks if you follow the process exactly as designed."
Week 3, Marcus texted me:
"I consulted ChatGPT and another practitioner. They said I could add peptides now to speed things up. Makes sense to me."
I explained why that would backfire.
Adding amplifiers to a broken foundation is like putting premium gas in a car with a cracked engine block.
The peptide couldn't work properly with his cortisol chaos and inflamed gut.
It would likely make him feel worse.
Marcus ignored this.
Week 6: "I feel terrible. The peptide isn't working. Actually feel worse than when I started."
Week 8: "This isn't working. I want to try something else."
Here's what Marcus didn't understand:
I've been doing this for over a decade.
I've seen hundreds of cases exactly like his.
The protocol I gave him wasn't a suggestion.
It was the architectural blueprint based on his specific biomarkers and physiology.
ChatGPT doesn't have access to his labs.
The other practitioner didn't see his complete metabolic picture.
They gave him what he wanted to hear, not what he needed to succeed.
Marcus wanted to skip the foundation and jump to the amplifiers.
He wanted the shortcut that doesn't exist.
When you bypass the order of operations in health, your body will remind you why the steps exist.
Every time.
The gut inflammation that was sabotaging his sleep also sabotaged the peptide.
The cortisol chaos that was creating his energy crashes made the peptide's effects unpredictable.
The thyroid conversion issues that were causing his brain fog got worse with the added stress of an unsuitable intervention.
One decision to seek a second opinion that told him what he wanted to hear cost him 8 weeks of potential progress.
Now he's back to square one.
Except his body is more dysregulated than when we started.
This is why I'm selective about who I work with.
Health architecture requires trust in the process.
If you're looking for someone to validate what you want to do anyway, I'm not your practitioner.
If you want someone to build your optimal health from the ground up, regardless of how long it takes to do it right, that's different.
The foundation always comes first.
Even when - especially when - it's not what you want to hear.
Reply "FOUNDATION" if you're ready to do the work in the right order.
Until next time,
